2 Timothy 4:1–5
It is with a sense of urgency that this Scripture passage begins and ends. In our technologically advanced world, with emails, texts, and instant messages at our fingertips, it’s hard to envision the path of this urgent letter from Paul. Paul was imprisoned at the time of writing. It took weeks, or maybe months, for the letter to get into the hands of Timothy, his apprentice and a preacher who played an instrumental part in furthering the kingdom of God.
A desire to encourage others in their faith—not just with words, but with actions—should be one of our daily urgent aspirations. Indifference, complacency, and passivity in our Christian walk should be replaced with compassion, assertiveness, and willfulness. Through this medium, I exhort you, my brothers and sisters in Christ, in the words of Paul: “to proclaim the message,” “be persistent.” and “encourage.”
How many times have you sent a message spreading Christ’s love and saving grace? Just as Paul was charging Timothy, the Word of God instructs and bears the responsibility for us to spread the gospel message and his love. Why? Because our time in this world is temporary, but Christ’s love endures forever.
Together, let’s be a living example of Christ’s love. Let’s understand that every single day is precious and worthy for spreading God’s love.
Prayer:
Father, we pray that you stir up a spirit of restlessness and passion deep within our hearts. Help us spread your message of grace and love to the world with both our actions and our words. In Jesus Christ’s name, amen.
